Airports:

London Gatwick Airport

London Gatwick is Brighton’s closest international airport. It’s about 25 minutes away from Brighton and is easily accessible by road and rail.

By rail: the following services call at Gatwick Airport. You should buy tickets before boarding the train. The journey takes around 20 minutes.

First Capital Connect

Trains run every 15 minutes to Brighton (via Mid Sussex)

By bus: National Express buses leave Gatwick twice every hour and fares are between £8.00 and £10.00 depending on the time you travel.

By taxi: a taxi from the airport to Gatwick costs approximately £60, if pre-booked online. They can be booked here: www.british-airport-transfers.co.uk

 

Heathrow Airport

Heathrow is also easily accessible from Brighton, however it is easier to travel by bus as the train journey involves travelling into London and changing trains.

By rail:

The Heathrow Express takes 15 minutes from Heathrow to Paddington and leaves every 15 minutes. A ticket costs approximately £20 single and £34 return (more if ticket is bought on board).

Connections to Brighton can be made from London at London Bridge and Victoria. London Victoria – Brighton. Trains run every 15 minutes. Off peak day single (depending on time of travel) approximately £16.00

London Bridge – Brighton

Trains run every 15 minutes usually however there is currently serious disruption at London Bridge as the result of ongoing building works.

Heathrow Airport by Tube

The Piccadilly line connects Heathrow Airport to Central London and the rest of the Tube system. The Tube is cheaper than the Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect but it takes a lot longer and is less comfortable. Tube services leave Heathrow every few minutes fromapproximately 5am (5.50am Sundays) to 11.45pm (10.50pm Sundays). Journey time to Piccadilly Circus is about 50 minutes. There are three Tube stations at Heathrow Airport, serving Terminals 1-3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. A single ticket from Heathrow (Zone 6) into Central London (Zone 1) costs approximately £5.50 (£5.00 on Oyster). If you’regoing to be using London’s public transport system, it’s worth buying an Oyster card.

By bus:

National Express buses from Heathrow airport Terminals 1 and 2 leave every hour and cost around £25 depending on when you travel. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5 leave every hour and cost around £25 depending on when you travel. The journey takes approximately 2 hours.

 

Luton Airport

Luton Airport is convenient because there are direct train links and bus links, although the

journey is longer.

By rail:

First Capital Connect

Trains run every 15 minutes from Luton Parkway direct to Brighton and the journey takes

approximately 2 hours.

Ticket price: Approx £32 (depending on time of travel)

By Bus:

National Express buses from

Luton Parkway (take a shuttle bus from the airport for £1) leave every hour and cost around

£30 depending on when you travel. The journey takes approximately 4 hours.

 

London City Airport

By bus:

National Express buses from

London City Airport depart four times a day and cost around £17 depending on when you travel. The journey takes 4 – 5 hours and there are two changes.

By rail:

Docklands Light Railway (DLR)

The Docklands Light Railway is an overground system connecting East London to the London Underground network. The London City Airport DLR station is connected to the airport Terminal. The airport is located in Zone 3. Oyster cards and tickets can be purchased at the DLR counter adjacent to the airport Terminal.

The DLR departs London City Airport every 8 to 15 minutes, with journey times of less than 7 minutes to 22 minutes to Bank. Connections to Brighton can be made from London at London Bridge and Victoria (see Heathrow above for details).

Stansted Airport

We don’t recommend flying to Stansted Airport unless you have a particular reason to do so, as the onward journey to Brighton is difficult and expensive.

Arriving at Ashford International

By rail: the following services call at Ashford International. You should buy tickets before boarding the train. The journey takes around 20 minutes.

Southern Railways

Direct trains run every hour to Brighton

Eurotunnel

Brighton & Hove is under two hours drive from the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone. Go to www.eurotunnel.com
