The Panopto recorder application can only run on Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra) or higher. The latest MacOS is 10.16 (Big Sur).
To check your Mac’s OS go to the apple menu in the far upper left corner, and click on About this Mac.
This will launch a window which will tell you which version you have installed on your machine.
If you have 10.13 (High Sierra) or above, the Panopto Recording app can be installed onto the Mac.
If you have a University of Brighton managed Mac computer, you may have to contact the Service Desk to schedule a technician to help install the software. If it is your own computer, you can install it anytime, as long as you have 10.13 or above.
If you have an older mac computer, here is a list of all the machines that will allow one to install Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra):
MacBook introduced in late 2009 or later
MacBook Air introduced in late 2010 or later
MacBook Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later
Mac mini introduced in mid 2010 or later
iMac introduced in late 2009 or later
Mac Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later
If your machine is older than these models, then I’m afraid you are not able to install Mac OS 10.13, nor will you be able to run the Panopto Recorder on your Mac.
What you can do instead:
Record A Narrated Powerpoint on your computer
and upload to Panopto in your My Studies module.
