How to access & install Teams

Accessing Teams via the Microsoft Teams Application

Microsoft teams works across many platforms so you can download the app for your mobile device or the software for your laptop.
If you are planning on presenting using Teams you will need it installed on your laptop or desktop computer. The mobile app is good for joining meetings, but does not have all the features to start and present meetings/lectures.

Note for Secure Remote Access users

If you are a Secure Remote Access user, do not run or install Microsoft Teams from within the “Desktop” on Secure Remote Access. Microsoft Teams should only be used on your computer’s local desktop, not from the virtual desktop, as it will cause issues.

On any device visit: https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads

Once downloaded and installed you should login with your university email address and university password.
If you get a prompt from Windows Defender about Teams you can safely cancel it.

Navigating to your group’s Team on Microsoft Teams

Once the Teams software opens, click Teams on the left hand side. You should see a series of ‘tiles’ that represent the ‘Teams’ you are a member of. See below (if you can’t see the tiles, please click the Teams button in the left-hand margin). Please note if you are using the mobile app, the main menu is at the bottom of the screen.

Initially you may not have any Teams, but you can create a new Team if needed, or you may be asked to join a Team via a code.
