Free bike maintenance checks 28 February – 7 March

There will be free 30-minute bike maintenance checks available on all campuses from mechanics of Bike for Life South AKA ‘Dr Bike’, 28 February to 7 March.

These sessions are provided and funded by Brighton and Hove City Council at the Brighton campuses.

30-minute appointments are bookable through Calendly. Simply select the appropriate campus, then the date on the calendar and the times available will be presented. Choose an appointment and make a booking using your university email address.

The basic bike maintenance check offered by the mechanic includes minor mechanical adjustments and advice on how to keep your bike in good condition, including:

  • Bikeability advice such as use of gears, brakes and on road safety tips.
  • Help with the comfort of your bike set up / riding position.
  • Advice on locking your cycle and correct helmet fitting.
  • Bike servicing at a later date not covered by your 30-minute appointment.
  • Recommended bike shops and services.

It is expected that bike owners remain present when their bikes are being looked at, so they can benefit from the mechanics tips and advice on how to handle to most basic repairs and maintenance checks. The Dr Bike team does not provide a full bike service but can give an advice whether such service is required considering the condition of a bike.

The times and locations bookable through Calendly are:

  • Moulsecoomb campus – Tuesday 28 February, 11-3pm, outside the Advanced Engineering Building (AEB) – FULLY BOOKED
  • Falmer – Wednesday 01 March, 11-3pm outside the Checkland building – FULLY BOOKED
  • City Campus – Thursday 02 March, 11- 3pm main building quad, by the bike racks – FULLY BOOKED
  • Eastbourne – Tuesday 07 March, 12-2pm outside Hillbrow Sports Centre – SPACES AVAILABLE
