Having good relationships, friendships and social connections with others is a key part of wellbeing. With lockdown, social distancing and isolation, we know that it can be harder than ever to stay connected, and this can have a negative impact on your mood and wellbeing. Try and think today about ways to reach out to others whilst maintaining social distance – we’ve got some suggestions below to get you started in thinking about new and creative ways to stay in touch.

Continued learning through life enhances self-esteem and encourages social interaction and a more active life. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the opportunity to engage in work or educational activities particularly helps to lift older people out of depression.

Reminding yourself to take notice can strengthen and broaden your awareness. Studies have shown that being aware of what is taking place in the present directly enhances your wellbeing, and savouring ‘the moment’ can help to reaffirm your life priorities.

Getting active is not only great for your physical health but can also improve your mental wellbeing. It doesn’t mean you have to spend hours in the gym – focus on what you enjoy, there are lots of different ways to get active and to fit this into your daily routine.
