Access to university libraries during January lockdown

Our libraries are closed temporarily but we will be reopening for pre-booked study spaces once extra safety measures have been installed. It is important to stress that students should not travel during lockdown and that permitted access to these facilities is for essential use only.

Queenwood library, Eastbourne, will be first to re-open on Monday 11 January at 9.30am. The other libraries will re-open as soon as the necessary works are completed.

There is a ‘click and collect’ book service in place in all the libraries. If there are print books you need, then place a reservation as normal and we’ll email you when they are available for you to collect.

All our online resources are available via your library subject guide and the information advisers available to provide support if needed. You’ll find their contact details on your guide or email library@brighton.ac.uk

Set an alert on our Library Service Updates blog so you can keep up to date.

Booking a computer and study spaces

All PCs and study spaces in the libraries must be pre-booked – please ensure you do this before you head for campus – and don’t forget your Unicard as you’ll need it to enter the buildings.

If you need to use a computer on one of the campuses for Teams or remote learning then you can pre-book using the Book a PC app (available on My Brighton) at the following locations from Monday 11 January:

  • Edward Street
  • Falmer computer room
  • Eastbourne computer room
  • Cockcroft level one
  • Watts level 2

Finally, for the safety of our staff and students, please remember to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing when entering university buildings.

Help keep everyone safe and well

I assume exempt students will still be permitted to use the facilities and not be discriminated against?

That’s correct. Students such as those on Health Sciences, Pharmacy etc. are exempt as per our email last week. Thanks
