Observing Ramadan

Many Muslim students will be fasting during the month of Ramadan, which falls this year between Thursday 23 April and Saturday 23 May. We’re committed to supporting students who will be observing this holy month.

Religious observance and examinations arrangements

With the semester two exam period falling during Ramadan, you may be feeling anxious about performing your best while fasting. Take a few minutes to review Muslim Hands’ Top 10 tips for surviving exams during Ramadan.

If you have any queries or concerns about completing your assessments remotely during Ramadan, please speak to your Course Leader or your Student Support and Guidance Tutor (SSGT).

Getting support

With the current Coronavirus lockdown and advice to stay at home to stay safe, the University cannot offer its on-campus Islamic prayer rooms and washing facilities. However, we can share the following resources for guidance whilst at home or in isolation:

You may also find the Ramadan Health Guide (pdf) by Communities in Action in partnership with the NHS helpful. The British Nutrition Foundation has also put together some useful information.

Finally, our Faith and Spirituality Network can provide support to students. Or if you need further advice and support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Student Wellbeing team.
