News and events for University of Brighton students

Observing Ramadan

Many Muslim students will be fasting during the month of Ramadan, which falls this year between Sunday 5 May and Tuesday 4 June. We’re committed to supporting students who will be observing this holy month.

Prayer and washing rooms

Students can access a number of rooms across the university for prayer and washing. For students in Moulsecoomb, in addition to the Islamic prayer rooms and washing facilities in Watts that can be used during the daytime, there will also be temporary prayer facilities in Cockcroft M24 from Monday to Thursday, 8pm-10pm. (There are no washing facilities available in this room).

Fasting during exam time

With the semester two exam period falling during Ramadan, you may be feeling anxious about performing your best while fasting. Take a few minutes to review Muslim Hands’ Top 10 tips for surviving exams during Ramadan.

You may also find the Ramadan Health Guide by Communities in Action in partnership with the NHS helpful. The British Nutrition Foundation has also put together some useful information.

Getting support

The University Chaplaincy can provide support to students. Or if you need further advice and support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Student Wellbeing team.
