Save the date! British Science Festival 2017

We’re excited to announce that the University of Brighton will be co-hosting The British Science Festival with the University of Sussex. One of the oldest and longest-running annual events of its kind in the world, the festival will be taking place this year in Brighton from 5- 9 September.

Over the course of the festival, some of our academics will present an eclectic range of projects that showcase and celebrate the latest developments in scientific thinking alongside colleagues from other universities across the UK, that will engage, challenge and entertain audiences of all ages.

With over 120 events in the full programme, the Festival will truly offer something for everyone and provide fascinating learning opportunities. Some University of Brighton projects included in this year’s programme will give attendees opportunities to:

  • use virtual reality to understand the Iron Age and discover how the local landscape has changed over the past 90 million years
  • learn how comics can communicate often complex scientific ideas and join cartoonists in an interactive workshop to create their own cartoon comic strips
  • experience the solar system as a musical instrument that allows them to play Kepler’s harmonies as they explore the universe
  • visit Brighton Palace Pier and witness interactive artworks that deal with telepresence and virtual reality, while referencing Edwardian scientific experiments

Events will take place across all of our Brighton campuses, as well as various locations throughout the city and beyond.

All Festival events are free of charge but will have limited places. Tickets can be booked via the British Science Association website from 28 June 2017 when the full programme is announced, so make sure you save the date!
