RefME – Launch of University of Brighton styles

Library Services have been working with the suppliers of the popular RefME referencing app to produce new customised styles tailored to the needs of University of Brighton students and staff.

From the start of Semester two, users of RefME will find that it includes customised settings for all of the University of Brighton’s major referencing styles (Harvard, Harvard Chicago, APA 6th, MLA and Vancouver).

So what is RefME?

RefME is a user-friendly reference management tool which allows you to generate references by searching via Book/Article Title, ISBN, ISSN, DOI or URL or by simply scanning book or journal barcodes using your phone or tablet camera.

How does it work?

Create an account at www.refme.com or download the app from the App Store or Android market on your phone or tablet (Sign up with Email recommended).

Generate references by typing in the title of a book or journal or scan the barcode using your mobile device.

Select one of the 5 new customised University of Brighton Referencing styles (or one of the 2 pre-existing ones) to turn your reference into the style you require. Simple.

Once you have a reference list you can export it directly to Microsoft Word, Evernote, Mendeley, EndNote, RefWorks or Zotero.

This very short video shows you how it works.

RefME is free and simple to use, plus it’s already widely used by University of Brighton students and staff – have a look at this recent 12Apps of Christmas blog post to see more!

Now, this development means that RefME users will be able to select the appropriate University of Brighton style and have confidence that their references will be formatted exactly as required.

We’d love to know what you think!

If you have any comments or feedback about RefME or would like some more information please contact Rosie Williams or your local Information Adviser.
