Active Student Volunteering Week 2015 is here!

Student Volunteering Week is a week of celebration for student volunteering and a chance to showcase how much students give to their local communities. Universities all over the country are holding events including community days, volunteering and careers fairs, to promote what students do for others.

Active Student has a packed schedule with a bit of a green theme. Events for the week include:

  • Skills workshops to help you ‘skill-up’ , turning your skills into application form and interview speak
  • Good Deed Day with a random act of kindness across all campus libraries
  • Mural painting at Carlton Hill Primary School
  • Helping Fork and Dig It prepare MFGWP%20prof%205for the Spring growing season in Stanmer Park
  • Reaching out to the local community in Hastings about how to better use White Rock Gardens
  • Helping local primary school pupils in Eastbourne develop their school allotment

All these activities will be taking place during from Monday 23 February to Friday 27 February.

Volunteering can literally change lives; some student volunteers might help older people gain the confidence to leave their house after a fall or help children learn to read.

Arts students, for example, helped the Youth Hostel Association in Brighton this summer by creating beautiful works of art for visitors to admire. The volunteers all got to use skills that they had learnt on their course and the chance to get their work on display.

Find out what other student volunteers get up to here and make sure you keep an eye on studentcentral, the Active Student website and #SVW2015 on Facebook and Twitter.
