Important student finance information for continuing students

This is important information for undergraduate students eligible to receive student finance. Some things have changed since the start of last academic year 2017/18 which may affect you.

When will you receive your funding?

As long as you have received your 2018/19 notification of entitlement, re-enrolled online and you are progressing to the next academic year, you should receive the first payment with no glitches next Monday 24th September.

What happens if you don’t receive your funding as expected?

This could be for a number of different reasons so check the status of your funding application via your online student finance account in the first instance as this should flag any immediate issues.

Typical problems include:

• You have not applied for your student finance – you must apply each and every year of study.
• Student Finance are waiting for more information from you or your parent/sponsor/partner
• You are repeating the year but Student Finance have not been informed by you/the university
• You have changed course/university but SFE have not been informed by you/the university
• You have not returned your loan declaration form –  this will only affect students who submitted their online funding application before 25th March 2018

Why haven’t you received as much money as last year?

Again, this could be for a number of different reasons. Final year students receive lower amounts of Maintenance Loan so this will impact on all final year students due to receive student finance for living costs.

If you received a University of Brighton Bursary in your first year, these are not payable in subsequent years, but if you find yourself in financial difficulties during the year, do contact Student Advice. We also help students apply to the Student Support Fund.

If you have been overpaid student finance during last year, you will already know that any overpayment will be recovered from this year’s funding.
