Summer Fund to support students over the long vacation

Each year the university offers financial supports to students over the long summer holiday. This year is slightly different as we have fortunately received some additional funds from the Office for Students, so hopefully this means that we can help out more students who are not working over the summer.

Who can apply

We welcome applications from fully enrolled, full time, continuing, undergraduate students who are living in the UK throughout July and August and in financially difficulty because they are unable to work and/or have no family contact.

We anticipate a high demand on the fund this year and unfortunately we cannot guarantee awards for all applicants, so priority will be given to students who fulfil the following criteria:

  • have caring responsibilities – for a child, relative, partner or other adult
  • have health issues or are a disabled student
  • have no family contact
  • have other exceptional circumstances

How to apply

There is a short application form to complete and you need to provide supporting evidence such as bank statements, rent or mortgage liability, DWP benefits and a covering letter fully explaining your reasons for applying. When to apply

There is only a limited application window of 3 weeks – the fund opens on Monday 21st June 2021 and you need to submit your application and all supporting evidence before midnight on Friday 9th July 2021 but we do ask you to submit the form in plenty of time.

The reason for this is that we need to close and finalise all of our year round funds and the end of the financial year is 31 July.

Other important information

Please allow up to 14 days for a decision. We will notify you of the outcome of your application using your uni email address.

All successful payments will be made by the end of July and there is no right appeal for any unsuccessful applications.

Our year-round funds will reopen in the Autumn and we’ll send out more information about that nearer the time.
