How to pay less for prescriptions, glasses and dental work

Did you know that students are eligible to apply for free or reduced health costs from the NHS?

Not everyone has to pay for NHS prescriptions – some people are exempt from paying due to their age, income, if they’re pregnant or have a particular chronic health condition.

Others may be able to get a reduction on how much they have to contribute, due to having a low income. This is known as the NHS Low Income Scheme.

You can get help with the cost of:

  • NHS dental treatment
  • Eye test, contact lenses and glasses
  • Prescriptions
  • Hospital travel

…………and more.

In order to benefit from this scheme, you need to make an application by completing a form (which looks like the one in the picture) and send in evidence.

You can either download and print a form at home or order one online – this will be posted out to you. If you ask for a postal pack, it may take longer but it will contain a return freepost envelope and won’t use up lots of ink cartridge!

There is set criteria, so do read the form carefully before you apply.

Please contact Student Advice by email: studentadvice@brighton.ac.uk if you have any questions. We can help you, but unfortunately we can’t tell you if you qualify or not.
