part time work

So it’s Money Week and one way to help you top up the cash is to get a part time job!

Thanks to all who came along to see us at the Money Matters roadshow at Aldrich earlier. We hope you got some good ideas and help with your part time job search. For those who couldn’t make it, here’s a roundup of a few of the tips we were talking to people about…

Get out there and start looking
When looking for part-time opportunities, don’t forget to look in the obvious places like the local paper every Thursday and the job centre. Also tell people you are looking for work. We’re lucky that all our campuses are in lovely tourist spots along the south coast so there are many hidden service industry jobs out there where you can build your communication, team working and customer service skills. Find them on shop doors and restaurant windows and make sure you check them out first and provide a covering letter telling them why you want to work for them rather than go around town handing out CVs. It makes a real difference to if you get into the yes or no pile!

Need some help?
Did you know that we have Careers Development Advisors that are based at your campus, available for you to talk to about all things employment?
Contact your local Careers office today to book an appointment http://bit.ly/UoBcareerscontact and get help with your part time job search, feedback on your CV and support with your applications.

Top tips:
Our part time work landing page – a great place to start http://www.brighton.ac.uk/careers/find-a-job/finding-part-time-jobs – A must do is to check out the ‘Finding part-time jobs’ leaflet, downloadable from the right hand side column. You’ll find all things from lists of jobsites, networking ideas and making speculative applications to National Minimum Wage, National Insurance numbers and student’s rights at work.
