Tips for parents:
Talk to your children about online safety
– never share their personal information
– not to agree to meet people they don’t know
- Why not look at the internet together
- Make sure your anti-virus software is up to date
- Manage your security settings/parental control
- Sit with your child and make up rules for their use of the internet
– sites that can be accessed
– amount of time spent on the internet/games
- Report things/sites that you feel are not appropriate for children to see
Always remember that the internet is a big part of children’s lives and is a useful tool that can be used for many positive aspects of children’s learning. Stay positive and always encourage your children to stay safe when using the internet. Don’t discourage their use as with or without your permission they are probably going to access it at some point. It is better to educate them rather than discourage them.
