When I started collecting references and images for my final major project, one thing that was very clear to me was that I love the colour pink and colour palettes with blush tones, but I also love shades of white.
This created a base for my research. I knew I wanted soft shades of pink (I can’t tolerate hot pink, so let’s not go there), and I wanted lots of white.
I began by logging onto Instagram and creating a moodboard of all the images I liked, and I started following more and more people posting those pictures. I realised a lot of the pictures I was attracted to were mainly beauty posts, which as more of a fashion person, I found a little daunting since I didn’t know a lot about the industry. However, the more I explored, I came to understand that it’s about having fun while expressing yourself rather than just slapping something onto your skin and calling it a day. And as someone who’s not very heavily invested in beauty (yet!), one of the nicest things I’ve seen as I go more and more into this, is that it is such a positive community of people, just sharing their experiences and bonding with strangers over products they love.
I looked further into brands and people with a similar aesthetic sense. Cecilie Bahnsen is one of my new favourites, not just because of the kind of images they post, but I also really like the clothes they make. The fact that they have some awesome all-white collections is just a bonus! Another website that I’ve come to love is model and actress, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s new venture – Rose Inc. Yes, because it’s very pink, but more so because it helps me learn more about beauty through posts and tutorials by industry professionals.
