This will be the one stop place to hear all the news from University of Brighton’s geography field trip to Sicily and the slopes of Mount Etna!
I’m sure everyone is looking forward to going Sicily (those lucky enough to be going) and may be wondering what Mount Etna has been up to?
According to http://www.volcanodiscovery.com/etna/current-activity.html, on Thursday the 20th there was mild explosive activity continuing at the new SE crater with little variation, but has now essentially become continuous. Weak lava effusion also continues to aliment small flows from vents at the eastern base of the cone. The tremor shows a fluctuating, but overall slowly increasing trend.
Mount Etna is a very active volcano one of the most active in the world! If we’re lucky, we should hopefully see some activity in a weeks time! Although, lets hope any lava flows steer clear of our accommodation! But she seems to be quite busy at the moment, as the time lapse below shows of a pyroclastic flow that descended on Etna’s eastern flank on the morning of the 11th of February.
