Following on from Ron’s presentation at the JISC Learning and Teaching expert meeting in Birmingham, I thought I’d take him up on his Xerte 10 minute challenge! Unfortunately we didn’t have time in the session. So when I got home  I set my stop watch and “had a Go”.

Sadly I’m a bit slow and only got ¾ of the way through in the 10minutes, but I was taking screenshots at the same time.

I was a bit confused at what a couple of the template areas did, but it’s easy enough to see by previewing the object and flicking to the page. Normal editing is simple, and there is the capacity to add in a narration, part of the “Accessibility built in”. Adding links to Wikipedia articles is a doddle, as was embedding a Flickr search page, and a You Tube search, though I’m not sure I’d like such dynamic unfiltered links with some students.

Tomorrow I’ll be finish it off and publish a link to the result.

Xerte Toolkits are on show in the “Have a Go” area of the the Online conference, which  runs from the 23rd – 26th November 2010.

The reading week opens on 16th November 2010 and offers a chance to become familiar with the conference environment and try out innovative JISC projects in the ‘have-a-go’ area.
