Technical Specification

  • The product must be able to pick up and respond to cues in the users voice.

The product has to be able to provide users with a sense of acknowledgement as if they were talking to another person. In order to provide this my product must be able to identify what the user is feeling and be able to respond accordingly.

  • The product must be able to connect to the internet.

The product has to interact with the algorithm which is located on the cloud based servers. This is so it can save and store the voice samples that it records from the users as well as using the algorithm to determine what response to give.

  • The product must be able to play otter noises in high quality.

As the otter responds to the user by playing sounds samples taken from real otters, the sounds that it makes need to be high quality as if they sound tinny or distored the user will not want to talk to the otter as it is unplesant to listen to.

  • The product must be induction charged.

For the ease of the user, the otter has to be able to be removed from the charging base in a single gross movement with no dexterity required. As a result induction charging was chosen as it can be dine without plugging in any cables or anything like that.

  •  The product must be able to display its state of charge.

As the otter is powered by a battery, when the otter is reconnected to its charging base it must display how much charge is left in the battery. This is so the user can determine when they can use it.

  • The otters eyes must light up.

This is so the the user knows that the otter is listening to them when they are talking to it, becasue otherwise they will be confused as they will not know if they will recieve a response from the otter.

  • The otter must be able to be injection moulded.

The otter has a complex form with a lot of texture to mimic the fur that a real otter has, due to this complex form in order to get the best result the body should be injection moulded.
