Physical Prototype

Standard

An otter was chosen to be the form of the project as through user testing it was decided that it was both friendly and trustworthy.

After deciding on the dimensions of the otter, a template was created that was used to cut out the shape of the otter.

After the template was cut out, files and sandpaper were used to apply detailing and further shaping to the otter in order to make it look realistic. A range of fillets each with a different radius were applied to the otters body both on the topĀ (R20, 25, 28, 30, 33, 38mm) and the underbelly (R18, 20, 24, 27, 30mm), in order to find out what was the most comfortable for all users.

Due to COVID-19 no further tests with the model were able to be performed with users.

After testing the foam model with users, and making the adjustments needed to make sure the otter was the correct size and shape. The otter was then coated in clay so that there was a smooth finished surface that was then painted to provide a finish that made the otter look convincing.
