Drawing Is … Contextual Research

To kick start the project, I looked back through at a magazine I got from an exhibition in Leeds, That had a collection of different illustrators work, plus conversations with them, to investigate what there work was about and what drawing intrinsically meant to them.”Drawing requires time, attention to details, focussing on the whole, to be present in the moment, some use drawing to think, to sketch and brainstorm, others use it as a tool to visualise large concepts and ideas on paper or in space.”

Drawing Upon Inspiration

Initial Thoughts….

”Identify / select an area of curiosity as a starting point to explore within the medium of drawing / image making.”

After reading the brief, I selected several possible areas of exploration that I found most relevant to my personal notion of ”What drawing is”. Topics included ideas such as, exploring the power of being a creator, the significance of aesthetic value when image making, and the importance of visual documentation.

Summer Project – Life size \ Procsess

Here are some extracts from my journal, when planning the ‘life size’ portrait , I was a little apprehensive about the prospect of the drawing being life sized as I usually stick to smaller drawings, however I was exited to try something different. I looked at exploring ‘external and internal’ landscapes and plan out what I wanted to communicate about myself in my portrait. For example I wanted to communicate the fact that I am a twin and how that has had an impact on both my external and internal identity, I also wanted to illustrate some of my interests such as philophy and music.
