Led by Simon Sandys – Creating Sustainable Paper Negatives using Large Format Photography

This event is offered by The Communication and Creative Ecologies REG and The Centre of Arts and Wellbeing [Making Well strand]. And this is a Research Knowledge Exchange first having technicians leading event workshops and sharing their expertise for Research Week.

This is an person with talk and practice-based session in Edwards St in the Basement void area and in the darkroom. We will meet in the void to begin. After an overview of the sustainable darkroom process, we will use darkroom paper in a large format analogue camera to make paper negatives and then develop those prints in our plant-based developers. The research question in mind would be, Can plant-based developers be used to make analogue photographic work?

Students will gain a deeper understanding of how the analogue photographic method can be combined with plant-based chemistry to make sustainable photographic work.
