Welcome
Dear students and colleagues
I would like to welcome you to the School of Art and Media’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Week for 2023. We’re very excited to be presenting this programme, which represents some of the best current research going on in the School. We’re especially excited to be including exhibitions, presentations and workshops from MA and PhD students, colleagues in cognate disciplines from UoB and beyond, and from the University’s Design Archives, located in Grand Parade. These sessions indicate how outward looking research in the School is, and how successfully it is engaging with exterior partners and audiences. Please do look through the scheduled sessions and see what intrigues and inspires you; we really want this week to provide an opportunity for getting together, discussing our shared interests and projects, and prompting new ideas.
As always, many thanks go to Karen Gainsford, who expertly programmed RKE Week and skilfully put together the accompanying blog. A huge thank you too to Duncan Bullen, the School’s Associate Dean R&KE until his retirement in September, who always championed Research and Knowledge Exchange Week, and helped with the preliminary work for this year’s event.
Finally, a massive thank you to all of you as individuals, course teams, research groups and Centres who invite new engagement with your research during this special week, and to everyone who comes along to participate in the events, whether online or in person.
Please enjoy the week!
Professor Tamar Jeffers McDonald
Dean of the School of Art and Media
