Hosted by The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere, this free, open-to-all, in person event will bring together expert speakers to highlight why choosing local food matters—for our health, our communities, and the environment.

Join expert speakers to discover how the food we eat connects us to nature and our local landscapes within The Living Cost UNESCO Biosphere.

This gathering will engage you to rethink your food choices, reduce food waste and discover how you can play a role in supporting nature and sustainability through what you eat. This is a must-attend for anyone interested in food, sustainability, and the future of our local environment.

  • Chef Mauro Colagreco , 3 Star Michelin Chef and Mauro Colagreco is known for his passion for his craft and commitment to protecting the planet. The renowned chef of three-Michelin-star and B Corp restaurant in France (the Mirazur) and more recently of a one-Michelin-star restaurant in London (The Raffles), he puts environmental concerns at the heart of his cuisine, championing the emergence of a circular gastronomy that respects the cycles of nature. A tireless advocate of raising the awareness about the challenges facing humanity, in 2022 he became the first chef to be appointed by UNESCO as a Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity
  • Annie Brown, Farmer on the City Downland Estate in the South Downs
  • Paul Loman, Director at the Real Junk Food Project
  • Mardi Roberts, Brand Ambassador for the Ridgeview Wine estate – a local B Corp vineyard, and Vice Chair of the Sussex Local Visitor Economy Partnership

Q&A: We will take questions from the audience, especially from students from the University of Brighton, Plumpton College and the University of Sussex

Did you know you lived in a UNESCO designated area? Stretching from the South Downs National Park to the sea, from the Adur to the Ouse, with Brighton & Hove and Lewes at its heart, The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere is one of seven designated biospheres in the UK.

We operate as an interdisciplinary partnership encompassing a wide array of organisations (voluntary, conservation, community, education, local government, private and public sector). They are a collaborative network sharing best practices and knowledge. Inviting a series of local experts to share their knowledge and foster action to tackle climate change & biodiversity loss.
