Event: Exhibition/Research Project Luica King “Delve” | 11 September to 10 October 2024 – at the Josep Renau gallery , Faculty of Fine Arts, Universitat Politènica de Valencia, Spain

Artist/Curator Dr. Lucía I. King (Senior Lecturer, Fine Art/ Photography) curated the exhibition and research project, “Delve” at the Josep Renau gallery, within the Faculty of Fine Arts, Universitat Politènica de Valencia, Spain.

This project features the following international artists, networking and presentations:

Artists: Mia Taylor, Helena Goldwater, Javier Olivera, Mochu, Pak-Keung Wan and Lucía I. King.

Key note speaker: Patricía García, author of ” Space and the Postmodern Fantastic in Contemporary Literature” (Routledge, 2015) and artists talks by all of the the above artists (open to the public and faculty staff/students)

The exhibition explores the relationship between the concept of ‘space and the fantastic’ as demonstrated through a range of projects in painting, photography and moving image by the artists. Accompanying research talksalso explored the value of transnational artists’ networks and interdisciplinary (Fine Art-Literary studies) exchange. Taking off from Jean Laplanche (the French psychoanalyst) in the ambience of the artworks themselves, these talks drew attention to the ‘psychosocial’ aspects of space and the fantastic. Fantasy here, is not just appreciated as an ‘individual product of the imagination’, but also as a powerful visual grammar and syntax for organising desire and social anxiety to mobilise new cultural movements.
