Queer Methodology: from PhD thesis to research monograph
Åsa Johannesson Thursday 13th June 2024, 4.00pm
Teams ‘Group-School of Art & Media PGR Students’ Team Code: umsgg23
In this presentation I will talk about how I developed my PhD thesis into a Routledge methodology book. I will outline the key components from my practice-based PhD project ‘The Queering of Photography: A Generative Encounter’ (Royal College of Art 2019) in which I explored nonbinary logic and image materiality in photographic practice and theory and applied this to queer identity politics. The presentation will proceed with an insight into the writing of my research monograph Queer Methodology for Photography (Routledge 2024). I will talk about diversity and inclusion in the canonization and theorization of queer photography and how artistic strategies’ to image making can impact on knowledge production through methodologies that entangle practice with theory.
