Note thatthe  R&KE Showcase on Wednesday 27 March.  This is part of the Our university-wide Research and Knowledge Exchange Week is taking place from Monday 25 to Thursday 28 March 2024.

The showcase is our headline event and a culmination of research and knowledge exchange outcomes over the past year with short, lightning-speed presentations from a range of our talented staff and postgraduate researchers. To give you an idea, here are just some of our speakers:

Aakanksha Virkar specialises in modern literature and culture between 1870-1945, exploring the intersections of literature, philosophy, music, and visual culture. Aakanksha’s project, ‘T. S. Eliot and Beethoven: Aesthetics, Music and Politics 1870-1945’, examines Eliot’s critique of Nazi cultural ideology through his engagement with Beethoven during the interwar and World War II years. This interdisciplinary research repositions Eliot as an advocate for artistic and philosophical resistance against Nazi ‘Kulturpolitik’, shedding new light on his role as a defender of art.

Paul Sermon is an award-winning artist and Professor of Visual Communication. His current project, ‘A Telepresence Stage for Disability Performing Arts,’ collaborates with leading disability performing arts companies to pioneer innovative solutions for inclusive performances. The project aims to create hybrid live-staged productions and remote online telepresence participation, overcoming geographic and mobility barriers while minimising environmental impact and ultimately promoting inclusivity in the arts.

Rachel Forss brings over a decade of experience in wound care and diabetic foot ulceration treatment. Her current research studies the effects of gravitational changes on lower limb blood flow, crucial for understanding space travel’s impact on tissue healing. By utilising innovative equipment during parabolic flights, the GELL-P project aims to increase our understanding of foot perfusion dynamics in varying gravitational conditions, laying the foundations for future research and potential clinical applications.
