This talk will present examples of reflective practice methods used in the field of interactive digital media arts and performance. Since the beginnings of my own creative practice in the early 1990s I have continually followed a reflective methodology, best described by Donald Schön’s methods of ‘reflection-in/on-action’ (Schön, 1983). Each project has been undertaken through an action-research process, whereby much of the development and experimentation process occurs in the gallery or public venue itself. Unlike many other artists my work is not reliant on studio practice and aligns itself with a site-specific practice-based approach that relies significantly on audience engagement in terms of both interaction and observation.
