The University has been awarded a prestigious UKRI Impact Acceleration Account, funded through the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The IAA enables us to advance our arts and humanities research by providing networking, training and development opportunities to deliver real-world change in response to key societal challenges. This includes an annual series of training and capacity building activities tailored to arts and humanities researchers. The annual programme of workshops for 2023-2024 includes the following opportunities:
- One-to-one impact coaching with external experts
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accredited impact e-learning
- Introduction to impact and knowledge exchange workshop (26 October 2023),
facilitated by Walcott Communications
- Utilising arts and humanities methodologies in policymaking (14 December 2023),
facilitated by the Policy Lab
- Evidencing and evaluating impact (23 January 2024), facilitated by Insights for Impact
- Integrating impact into your funding bid (18 March 2024), facilitated by
Fast Track Impact

This programme will help to ensure researchers are fully equipped to apply their research in complex global environments.
There is considerable scope to shape the IAA training initiatives to the needs of our academic community. Get in touch if you have particular ideas for research impact skills development initiatives or project ideas and we can help take these forward.

Global Fellowships
Research-active colleagues can invite world-leading researchers and scholars whose primary place of work is a non-UK country to apply for a University of Brighton Global Fellowship. Global Fellows and their University of Brighton collaborators will work with COREs to deliver outcomes including grants, outputs and workshops and build enduring partnerships.
Open to all research-active colleagues Amount: up to £3,000
Application window: 4 October – 15 November 2023
Awards made: December 2023
Projects must be delivered between 1 January 2024 and 31 July 2024. For queries, email: RaKEInitiatives@brighton.ac.uk
Visiting Research Fellowships
Visiting Research Fellows (VRFs) are a valued part of our research and knowledge exchange community at the University of Brighton. VRF awards are made to a person of appropriate academic/industry/third sector standing who is not a member of university staff.
Application window: year-round (no fixed deadline). Fellowships are a maximum of one year in duration.
For queries, email: VRF-RaKE@brighton.ac.uk
PGR Mobilisation Scheme
This scheme works in two ways; it enables our postgraduate researchers (PGRs) to visit and work alongside research leaders around the world, and also attracts outstanding PGRs from non-UK locations to spend some time with us at the University of Brighton.
An award from the PGR Mobilisation scheme should be used to generate new global partnerships, or to reinforce existing collaborations and networks. Interactions with global partners should aim to produce a jointly written output or co-produced artefact within nine months of the visit, preferably, also involving a UoB supervisor.
This scheme offers awards of up to £8,000 for self-funded University of Brighton (UoB) PGRs and UoB-funded studentships, or up to £4,000 for incoming PGRs. For UoB students, funds may be requested to cover all aspects of a visit overseas (eg travel and subsistence, visas, vaccines, bench fees, consumables).
We would normally expect incoming PGRs to come with their own source of funding, but this award could be used to top-up travel and subsistence allowances and contribute to bench-fees and consumable costs.
Open to all eligible postgraduate researchers
Amount: up to £8,000 for self-funded University of Brighton postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and UoB-funded studentships, or up to £4,000 for incoming PGRs.
Application window: 23 October – 10 November 2023
Awards made: November 2023
Projects must be delivered between 1 January 2024 and 31 July 2024.
As usual, applications that need Dean or Associate Dean Sign-off / supporting statements, we kindly request that you notify your intention to submit and send a draft application 2-3 weeks prior to the stated deadline.
Very best
Duncan
