About the scheme

Are you a University of Brighton student interested in developing your research skills? Perhaps you’re considering further study such as a masters degree or PhD?

The university’s Doctoral College is inviting applications from undergraduates in their penultimate or final year, and postgraduate taught students (such as masters students) to work collaboratively with a postgraduate research student (PGR) on an advanced research activity. (PGRs are usually, but not always, PhD students and may also be known as doctoral students or doctoral researchers.)

This scheme will enable you to gain insights and experience of research work at a higher level, develop research skills, and support your future career plans, including research degree study. The PGRs will gain experience of mentoring and managing a research project/activity.

We encourage students from underrepresented groups to apply, especially where indicated in the project description.

Project activities will take place between May and July 2022 and each student will receive a £500 stipend.

How to apply

If you would like to apply for one of these opportunities, please download and complete our application form and submit it to the project lead by the deadline. For most projects, the application deadline is Thursday 12 May 2022, 5pm (extended from 05 May). A few projects are further extended. Please see individual projects for deadline details.

You will need confirmation from your course leader/supervisor that the proposed project is complementary with and manageable alongside your studies. Please ensure you allow your course leader/supervisor sufficient time to complete their part of the form before the deadline.

The final selection will be made by the PGR student leading the project jointly with their lead supervisor and/or a Doctoral Studies Lead in the School.
