Dr Mary Darking
The course is currently led by Dr Mary Darking whose specialist interest is in the use of data, information and IT in policy efforts to reduce social inequality. Mary works in policy areas where links between community and public policy making are particuarly highlighted. She is co-investigator on a €5,500,000 Horizon 2020 project where she is working alongside people living with HIV to develop a smartphone app that integrates with hospital information systems. Dr Kepa Artaraz
Dr Kepa Artaraz recent book on Global Social Policy is based on the research and teaching he is currently engaged in on our MPA and social policy programmes in the School of Applied Social Science. He has a particular research interest in social exclusion, indigenous understandings of wellbeing, political participation, south-south forms of solidarity networks, and the regionalisation of social policy. Dr Aidan McGarry
Dr Aidan McGarry is a leading scholar on social movements and coordinator of the Social Movements Network. His recent edited book (with James Jasper) The Identity Dilemma: Collective Identity and Social Movements (2015) is an important collection of the latest contemporary thinking on social movements. His research focuses on political representation and participation of minority and marginalised communities, particularly Roma across Central and Eastern Europe but also LGBTI communities. He was recently awarded an Arts and Humanities Research Council grant (£250,000) to study The Politics of Protest: Visual Culture and Communication in Turkey.
