Log

This is my learning log. This is where I will document my progress in learning new skills and theories. This is mainly done in the form of sporadic video updates.

> 29/11/2022 – log entry #1 | exploratory design

⮩In this video, I display the first demonstration of my code working in a circuit (with the aid of some housemates). I used some tea light holders to hold the dirt and used Arduino IDE to show it working.

> 30/11/2022 – log entry #2 | error correction

⮩In this video, I showed how I tidied the wiring and corrected the coding error that made the LCD glitch.
My next steps were to consider creating my first idea of a plant pot that can hold the wiring, and read the soil resistance reliably.

> 05/12/2022 – log entry #3 | GROWfessor prototype CAD

⮩ This is a video that shows the 3D CAD model of the housing of the GROWfessor prototype. It was made using SolidWorks and was eventually 3D printed and assembled. This model can also be viewed and downloaded here.

>30/01/2023 – log entry #4 | the (first) GROWfessor prototype

⮩This video shows the process of me putting together the first prototype of the GROWfessor. I talk about any problems that I faced, as well as explaining some technical terms.

>13/03/2023 – log entry #5 | the moisture tester

⮩In this video, I will be assembling a moisture sensor kit which was kindly gifted to me by my lecturer Derek. The kit contains all the necessary components and instructions to build a working moisture sensor, including resistors, LEDs, a 9V battery clip, and a transistor.

I soldered the components on a PCB, whilst explaining the purpose of these components. I also spoke about any problems that I came across.

>28/04/2023 – log entry #6 and #7 | GROWfessor prototype 2

⮩In this video, I did a voiceover of myself explaining how I assembled the new growFESSOR prototype.

⮩In this video, I performed a showcase of the new prototype, whilst also comparing it to its earlier counterpart. I also explained my plans for some future experiments that I will perform using this prototype.
