Introduction

‘Working in partnership with Brighton and Hove city council and University of Brighton, we are delivering one of Brightons biggest ever regeneration projects. It will create over 1,500 jobs and inject more than £280 million into the local economy over the next ten years’.

The project owner is developer U+I Group. U+I is a property regeneration company that transforms undervalued parts of towns and cities into communities where people and enterprise can thrive. Current plans for the redevelopment of the Preston Barracks site started in July 2014. At that time, the council exchanged contracts with the University of Brighton and developers (formerly Cathedral Group (Holdings) Ltd & Development Securities PLC). The partners then developed detailed plans in a process that included a number of public consultation events. This culminated in February 2017 with submission of the full planning application. The regeneration scheme took a huge step forward in September 2017 when planning consent was granted. The location for this project will be based on Lewes Road, Brighton.

This development will deliver 369 new homes, including affordable housing, and 534 student bedrooms in managed halls of residence. These accommodations will be uniquely positioned against a new home for the university’s business school.
