Digital Technologies and Information for Health Care Delivery
This module is for open to single module and students on MSc Health and will provide students with the opportunities to explore the issues surrounding the application of a range of emerging technologies in effective health care information management. Though the examples in the module delivery will be drawn from the National Health Service in England, the contents of this module may equally be applicable to an International care service.

The module content will include:
- Introduction to health care information systems and its use in information management (Health Information archival and retrieval Systems)
- The purpose and rationale for health care information management
- Health Information Media (paper and electronic); Data capture tools and technologies (health record tools and documentation)
- Data quality and integrity; Information Governance
- Security, privacy and confidentiality issues; Data protection and medical records acts; Clinical classification systems
- Electronic Health Records (EHR), personal health records and their implications
- Telehealth, telemedicine and telecare
- Evidence based informed decision making
- Analysis and presentation of data for quality, risk management and other patient care related studies.
Entry requirements
Applicants at level 7 would normally possess a bachelor degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
Assessments
There are two elements of assessment for this module, both of which must be passed.
- E-portfolio of evidence (2000 word equivalence) To include online activities/sources in relation to quality of care and outcomes for patients and service users and legal and ethical issues involved in safeguarding health information.
- Written assignment (2500 words) A critical evaluation on the student’s professional experience with the use of digitalised technology/ies in the care setting, incorporating their contribution to the module online activities.
