Content
This module recognises the importance of student engagement in learning. It is designed to develop an understanding of practices, policies, and strategies to improve the student experience in parallel with theory in this area, including concepts such as of student satisfaction and student-staff partnership in learning. You will be encouraged to critically reflect on student engagement practice in your own pedagogic context (student voice, partnership etc.). Assessment plays a significant role in student engagement and the module also addresses the influence of types of assessment activity on the approach to the learning and study behaviours and its incorporation into teaching. You will be offered opportunities to discuss and critically reflect on and assess your own practice.
Entry requirements
Students needs to have completed HE714 or equivalent D1 level study
Assessments
There are two components to the assessment for this module, both of which must be passed.
- A group presentation where groups present to peers for up to an hour and a half on engagement, assessment, and feedback approaches. Here you will critically reflect on your experiences of quality enhancement in pedagogic practice, showing relevant professional and educational standards (LO1 & 3). This carries 100% of the mark.
- As part of assessment, you must also submit a reflective piece of no more than 500 words with evidence to show how you have used, or plan to use, the knowledge gained around student engagement to develop your practice (LO 2). This is marked as pass or fail.
