Child Protection
This module is for nurses and allied healthcare professionals working with children and families in health and social care settings. This module aims to enable students to develop knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding towards the protection of children and the promotion of the welfare of children, families and communities

Content
The content will be flexible to enable module leaders to respond to the needs of individual group members and current issues of concern. This will include:
- Child protection in its historical and social context
- Critique of policy, research and legislation
- Theories of child abuse and neglect
- Recognising and responding to suspected abuse and neglect
- Impact of abuse and neglect
- Working in partnership with families, professionals and voluntary services; recognising diversity and equality issues.
- Strategies for the promotion of well-being and prevention of harm
Entry Requirements
Applicants should be working in the UK as a healthcare professional for a minimum of 2 days per week, working in a clinical area with support available from a designated mentor. Students taking this module as part of the Community Specialist Practice and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programmes will need a practice assessor.
