Care of the Acutely Ill Adult
This module is for nurses and allied healthcare professionals working in acute care who regularly assess patients and escalate concerns.

Content
The thread through the module is a structured ABCDE(FGHI) assessment, recognising deterioration and escalating concerns (with reference to NEWS scores and SBAR). Topics covered are respiratory, cardiovascular, abdominal, fluid, and neurological assessments. ABGs, ECGs, NIV, AKI, shock, and sepsis are covered as well as human factors and treatment escalation plans.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should be working in the UK as a healthcare professional for a minimum of 2 days per week, working in a clinical area with support available from a designated mentor. Applicants at level 7 would normally possess a bachelor degree or equivalent or have evidence of the ability to study at postgraduate level
Assessments
2,000 word case study (50%), OSCE (50%), and completion of six skills in practice (pass/refer).
