Advanced Health Assessment (Adult)
This module is designed for allied health professionals (AHPs) who practice at an advanced or specialist level (band 6+). The module allows AHPs to carry out and interpret a structured history taking, physical assessment and use data and clinical decision making within the defined context of their professional practice, to develop differential diagnoses.

Content
This module covers the following body systems including health history taking, cardiovascular, respiratory, abdominal, neurological, musculoskeletal, ophthalmology, dermatology, ENT and mental health.
The module will enable you to carry out and interpret structured physical assessments and use data to inform clinical decision making within the context of your professional practice. Pathophysiology will feature within the taught days on each system and there will be an expectation that students will have some good knowledge of anatomy and physiology prior the module commencing.
Entry Requirements
- Applicants must possess a bachelor degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- Healthcare professional currently registered with a professional, statutory and regulatory body with normally 3 year post-registration experience.
- Currently working in a band 6 role or above.
- Working in an area of clinical practice normally a minimum of 2 shifts/week.
Assessments
1. An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and Viva 100%
2. A practice portfolio/skills book – PASS / REFER
1. OSCE (45 minutes in total): Formed of a 30 minute, case based clinical scenario requiring a demonstration of an adult advanced physical assessment skills from one of the following systems- (abdominal, cardiac, respiratory or neurological). Plus a 15 minute viva voca based on the OSCE assessment.
2. Practical skills in practice portfolio/skills book. Each skill in practice will include an evidenced based clinical narrative with coherent clinical reasoning based on the following: Interpretation of advanced physical assessment findings; underpinning pathophysiology and consideration to multiple differential diagnosis’. Marked as pass/refer
Both elements need to be passed to complete the module.
