Principles of Health Promotion and Behaviour Change
Health promotion is about enabling healthy living for all. This module is for anyone involved or interested in health improvement and preventative health, and those who give information or personal advice on healthy lifestyle behaviours to patients and public.
We encourage interdisciplinary learning and welcome students from all professional and academic backgrounds.

Content
The Principles of Health Promotion and Behaviour Change module provides a broad grounding in health promotion theory, policy and practice, from epidemiology to implementing behaviour change. It will equip you to apply health promotion concepts in your work and/or in subsequent academic study.
Module content includes: Current public health epidemiology and policy agendas, Social determinate of health, Inequalities, Health promotion models and approaches including healthy settings, salutogenesis or assets based approaches, Ethics in health promotion, Global health promotion, Behaviour change models and practical techniques for enabling healthy behaviours, including Motivational Interviewing, eliciting change talk and Making Every Contact Count.
Entry requirements
Applicants at level 7 would normally possess a bachelor degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
International students English language skills in speaking and listening should be 7 or above.
Assessments
The assignment requires students to write a 2,000 word written appraisal of an assigned public health intervention, 75% weighting, plus a 15 minute online spoken oral on techniques for behaviour change , 25% weighting.
