Siobhan Thompson: ‘A Photographer’s Goodbye to Circus Street’ (2015)
“Circus Street” in 2015. Built in 1883 it was one of three schools in the Carlton Hill area and the last to remain.
Whilst the old market on Circus Street has been torn down, we students and staff of photography and moving image in the adjacent University annexe have been waiting for our own building to follow the same fate. As we are set to move into our new Edward Street development in the New Year, the home of the photography course for the last 23 years will be demolished. With two weeks left of term I took the time to go round and take photos of the interiors and exteriors as a chance to say goodbye. The use of a little 35mm point and shoot led to some grainy, uneven images which have a little bit of charm, much like our home with its creaky floorboards and wonky rooms that we have grown to love.
Siobhan Thompson is a third year Photography BA(Hons) student whose work explores relationships to place through personal and family history. http://siobhanthompson.wix.com/photography
