Deconstruction Fashion: The Making of Unfinished, Decomposing and Re-assessed Clothes

I found this article inciteful, it has led me to consider clothes the deconstruction of them in many ways. I enjoyed the comparisons of deconstruction in terms of theories, assumptions and literal thinking.

The idea of recycled and old-new now come to mind when considering what deconstructing a garment looks like.  Alison talks about the process involved and how many designers have used this idea within their work to convey a sense of sentimental value and the idea that things can be re-born.

She questions whether it could be another superficial trend rather than a significant thought. I don’t believe so although feel that even if it were posing as such, that there would be a beneficial outcome.

The idea of ‘trace’ and how the deconstruction of clothes can lead you down a path to a potentially uncovered story is exciting and I believe to be accurate. The idea that cultural reflection can be gained from the ‘undoing’ of garments allows you to create a sense of life.

A great deal of reflective analysis and in-depth research is portrayed in this article.
