Formal vs informal (guards/prisoners)
Compare uniform in terms of structure – shoulders and authority vs casual t-shirt
Communities within each – warden and prisoners – different uniforms but still a uniform so therefore community can happen
Allowed to say cannot answer this question as someone was unable to help is ok (make sure this is relevant)

What does Sustainable fashion look like?

Questions/answers/thoughts:

Is there a manifesto that has had a big impact on you personally or on society more generally?

  • Diana Verde Nieto from Positive Luxury: ‘When I was growing up my grandmother always said live and let live, that means respect yourself, respect others, respect the environment.’
This for me links to sustainability and how we need to think about how what we purchase affects the world around us. It’s all a choice, we can decide what we do and how we do things.

‘In my job I always try to do the best I can, you have to have room for failure or whatever word you want to use for this, from this you can learn a lot. My dad always said the reason we have cycles is to allow something to die so it can be born again stronger – that is at the core of everything. It’s important to have room to make mistakes, and to be comfortable making mistakes and learning, without having to impose top-heavy structures that’s how you can build an amazing organisation.’
    – A good reminder to experiment and try out different thing in order to get to an outcome.

  • Laura Santamaria of Sublime magazine: ‘We wanted people to think more deeply, you cannot for instance, keep saying sustainability or ethical over and over again, you have to find other ways of expressing these terms, we need to carry these message beyond just preaching to the converted’
    – This really made me think. Is the word sustainability overused? Do I need to try and convey this message in a different way in order to connect with those who aren’t already involved in the movement?
