We are very happy to have our PhD student Maria-Kotopoulea Nikolaidi presenting her research findings of her doctorate studies on Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) and KAATSU during Resistance Training in the BASEM conference on May 27-29th. Maria will be presenting the findings of her meta-analysis study on the effects of BFR during low intensity resistance training in healthy adults. This is the first study investigating the effects of BFR in healthy adults while controlling methodological parameters such as BFR pressure application and upper and lower body resistance training adaptations. Maria is also investigating the underlying physiological mechanisms responsible for the positive adaptations observed and documented in the relevant research literature with BFR during resistance training. Particularly, a special focus will be given in this BASEM presentation on the inflammatory and growth factor pathways underlying muscle protein synthesis and advantageous muscle hypertrophy responses observed with BFR during resistance training.

Dr. Fenia Giannopoulou will also presenting her research on low energy availability and chronic dieting in athletes and the general public continuing her work on eating disorders and mental health.
