Ditchling Dye Day March 2019

For our last workshop, we set up two indigo vats and an iron/soda dye bath.

Ferrous sulphate in solution. fabrics were immersed in this warm solution for 15 mins. No mordant required.

Then fabrics were immersed in this washing soda bath for 15mins

The green came from over dyeing the rust with indigo – just a few seconds though to get the subtle shade.

Zuzanna prepared these for the indigo bath. We also dipped our paste resist into the indigo with various levels of success. (The cassava paste may have been too thick.)
