Screen Archive South East was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to lead an exciting 12 month community history project in the seaside towns of the West Sussex coast across 2012/13.
The Movies and Memories project staged a series of events and activities which took place over twelve months, using SASE’s collection of archive film to stimulate memories, stories, reminiscences and oral histories. The project’s activities focused on the older generation who have a strong connection with the region’s past and whose memories are at risk of disappearing if not shared and recorded. Starting in the Summer of 2012, volunteers and elderly groups in the communities of Worthing, Shoreham-by-Sea, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis, became involved in activities, including:

Extracts from the recorded memories were combined with the films to create a new DVD which is now available to access in libraries across the four West Sussex seaside towns.You can also view extracts from the DVD online through our Movies and Memories Collection. |
