Birdie
Emily Outcault, known to fans and friends as Birdie, is the award winning author behind Aerial, Inclination, Verboten, and Kismet. She got her start uploading her works to the social storytelling platform Wattpad, where she has amassed a fanbase of over 5.7 million readers.
Quite literally moonlighting as your favorite romance novelist, Emily works as a Montessori preschool and kindergarten teacher by day, and settles into writing the next chapter in her book by night.
What makes Emily’s stories so enthralling is that they’re all about you. From a 1960s circus to a futuristic dystopia, Emily knows exactly how to set the scene. Each of her novels takes you tumbling through time only to spit you out in an era you aren’t from, at the start of a romance you’ll wish wasn’t confined to the page.
Emily resides in Portland, Oregon with her four-legged friend Louis.
The pink envelope
A important chapter in Aerial is the pink envelope, as a homage to this I want to send out the magazine in pink envelopes with the quote stamped on. I would have loved to include a page like this in Razzin’ but my conscious of how much space I am using up.

Creating the brief
My first job is to create the brief to send over to Onyeka. Shas picked the two collections she would like to feature, the 60s core collection as she feels like this is the collection that will best fit with the Razzin’ aesthetic and also the 90s collection as that is her next collection that will be coming out in April. So my job is to create the two briefs for these shoots including photography, location and styling boards for each shoot.
Summer of Love Club
My first editorial is going to be a two part editorial with a brand called summer of love club
I have been emailing with their creative director Onyeka Oduh and we’re planning on doing two shoots together over zoom due to covid. This is going to be difficult to achieve the look were both going for but I’m excited to see what we can create.
What am I doing?
My idea I had in my original research project and statement of intent has ultimately stayed the same and I’ve managed to create the brand identity and media pack to go along with my 60s inspired magazine. I still intent to make the PR side of the magazine the most prominent but the creation of the magazine and the graphic design aspect is going to stay the the forefront of my mind.
TikToks
Covid-19 lockdown did bring a new social media into gen Z’s lives and with this it brought new influencers and a new way of advertising. People are becoming stylists from the comfort of their own home; the next few pages are some of my favourites I have seen.

Advertising in Films
There’s two different ways I’d view advertising in films, the first would be how they advertise within the film, for example how magazines and radio adverts look within a movie. The second would be product placement, where companies put their specific product into a film – “Product placement, also known as embedded marketing, is a marketing technique where references to specific brands or products are incorporated into another work, such as a film or television program, with specific promotional intent.” An example of this would be how Audi promotes their cars in a Spider-Man film.
