Born in Birmingham, England. Mellisa began painting four years ago, and just has just completed a degree in fine art painting at the University of Brighton. Mellisa found an early fascination with still life, especially food in domestic and public places. She regularly photographs scenes, objects, tables, meals – whatever takes her fancy! Melisa’s work has become increasingly abstracted. Working wet on wet with oil paints.
Focusing on the still life, Mellisa strives bring the objects in her painting to life. Allowing them to become animated and adopt a new purpose for the painting while remaining in a domestic setting. She finds negative space to be as compelling to her as the objects themselves. Those spaces hold memory, potential and tension. She has discovered that painting allows her to see the world differently.
