Designing a Business Card and Postcards
I have found it pretty satisfying and fulfilling to design and print business and postcards at the moment because due to COVID-19, the prospect of finishing a university course seems dormant.
Before going onto vista print and designing my business cards, I looked at Pinterest for some inspiration when it comes to photographic business cards. Most business cards you see are pretty standard and only there to provide details for business people within companies, but when it comes to freelance photographers, you need to be able to make your business card memorable in the same way as the postcards so that potential employers and contacts can associate your name with your work and style.
Below is my favorite example of a photographic business card, its incorporated photography perfectly with graphics which I think makes for a very interesting card. The only problem I think this card has is readability. Although quirky, on some of the examples the contact details are particularly small and not in the most obvious positions which isn’t something I’d want my own business card to have.
When it came to designing my own card I wanted to use the best image possible. I decided on the black and white image of Millie as it has overall had the most positive feedback from tutors. It is also nice and simple so fits well on a business card and text can easily be overlayed on it. Commercialism is also extremely important to potential employers and I think that this image conveys that through its simple studio style.
I also wanted to make two different postcards so that I could appeal to different employers through different styles of imagery. The first postcards of the two torsos is more commercial as it shows off both studio and portrait skill and would be suited to more glossy, by the book employers. While the second postcard of the legs on the bed would be more suited to magazines with surreal or more out there content, where I want to show off my variety of different photographic styles.

When crafting business cards and postcards, attention to detail is crucial. Designing an eye-catching layout that reflects the essence of your brand ensures a lasting impression. Incorporating key information, such as contact details and a brief description of your services, is essential. Additionally, consider adding a QR code for easy digital access. For a cohesive professional image, align the design with other branding elements, like an id badge, creating a unified and memorable identity for your business.
