The whole idea for my research project started off when I finally got around to watching the McQueen documentary and was reminded of the mortality within McQueens work. He often used themes from memento mori within his designs from the very start of his work. Even the poster for the film is a memento mori as it depicts a skull covered in foliage.
I really enjoyed watching the film and it was a great insight into his life and work, I never knew that much of his life he worked for Givenchy and completely changed he fashion house for, in my opinion, the better. It was also great to see all of his shows as I didn’t know about ‘Joan’ which is the most important in terms of death symbols and has the biggest relation to my work.
